Summer in Ohio: Week 1

Just over a week ago, Jude and I packed our bags,

IMG_5650And said bye bye to Dada.

IMG_5684We flew together 11 hours from Taipei to San Francisco.

IMG_5686It was a long, exhausting journey but I knew it was the last time before baby #2 that I could fly solo with Jude. Thankfully my Mom met us in San Fran and helped us fly the rest of the way to Ohio. I could dedicate a whole post to flying along, with a toddler, 27 weeks pregnant.  It wasn’t easy but we survived.

IMG_5687Touching down in Ohio and seeing Grandpa was a great feeling. We made it. No more flying (until we return to Taipei on the 25th).

IMG_5721We spent the first few days hanging out around the house,

IMG_5748Catching up on all the sleep we missed out on.

IMG_5767We hit a local playground,

IMG_5785And ate custard ice cream.

IMG_5801Jude loves helping Grandma in the kitchen.

IMG_5806And with the clean-up after.

IMG_5929And watching cartoons on Grandpa’s giant TV.

IMG_5822We made a trip to Target for diapers and ran into Scout there.

IMG_5807And then in Grandma’s office we ran into St. Jude.

IMG_5834Jude’s not a big fan of shopping so thankfully a lot of the malls also have a kids play area.

IMG_5851

IMG_5943And a frozen yogurt store is never far away.

IMG_5855Grandma and Grandpa have been helping with mealtimes, diaper changes, and his nightly routine – which has been a nice break for me.

IMG_5919

IMG_5960We headed over to Aunt Jen’s and Uncle Rob’s one hot afternoon for a pool party.

IMG_5892They have a perfect little area in the pool where Jude could stand up and play in the fountains.

IMG_5894He got to venture out into the deep end in his float.

IMG_5881We had to lure him out of the pool with snacks.

IMG_5883Breakfast with Grandpa has been one of Jude’s favorite times of the day. Grandpa shares his fruit and cheerios.

IMG_5859We took a ride with Grandma one afternoon out to Fairport Harbor beach and played in the sand.

IMG_5912And a little bit in the surf.

IMG_5916He’s had lots of treats like McDonald’s,

IMG_5901Donuts,

IMG_5922And pretzels.

IMG_5946One of the best things has just been being outside in comfortable weather, running around in the grass – something he doesn’t get to do in Taipei.

IMG_5951It’s been a real treat for both of us.

IMG_5958To be continued…

Milestones in Malaysia

Last week we were in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. We scored a cheap flight + hotel deal (thanks to KK only being 3 hours from Taipei), packed our bags, and boarded our flight. Little did we know the week was going to be a doozy.

IMG_9016Our first night Jude started rolling from his back to his tummy (over and over and over again) and when he woke up the next morning we discovered that his first tooth had arrived! These new milestones coinciding with our vacation meant a bit less sleep than we were hoping for but we were both very proud.

IMG_9022

To help keep Jude’s mind off of the pain we spent a lot of time at the pool.

IMG_8782

IMG_9145We discovered he loves to try and grab the stroller fan when it is turned on! (Thankfully it is made out of foam but we still got quite a few sideways glances from other guests wondering why we were letting our son stick his hand into the blades of a fan…).

IMG_9156

IMG_9271Next to our hotel was an Orangutang reserve. It was pretty cool to watch them get to do their thing in the wild.

IMG_8774

We also spent a bit of time at the beach.  Jude’s did some wave jumping.

IMG_9306Followed by a big nap.

IMG_9165Jude made a lot of friends at the hotel.

IMG_9294He was charming everyone in sight with this adorable smile.

IMG_9126

Despite all the changes, he was so well behaved and a lot of fun to travel with.

But at the end of the week we were all pretty pooped.

Jude in the US (Part 2)

In Arizona we stayed at a resort in Scottsdale. It was really hot outside and the property had the most amazing pool so naturally it was the perfect time for Jude to go for his first swim.

IMG_7500He loooved it!

IMG_7558We found a small pool that was shaded from the sun and spent a good hour in there with him.

IMG_7561He would kick his legs and happily float around.

IMG_7569On our last day staying at the resort we took him for one last morning dip.

IMG_1716Jude did some walking practice along the ledge of the pool.

IMG_1745And used Grandpa as a floatation device.

IMG_1721Seeing how much he enjoyed  the water has definately motivated me to find more opportunities for him to get wet.

IMG_1742In addition to his first swim, Jude also got to experience his first sandstorm!

IMG_7488After a weekend in fun in the sun (and sand) we all got dressed up to attend Natalie’s White Coat Ceremony, her induction into med school.

IMG_7677Here she is crossing the stage on her way to get cloaked.

IMG_7680Yay!

IMG_7691We celebrated after by going out to a late lunch and stopping by Natalie’s new apartment to introduce Jude to Broca.

IMG_7694The night before our flight to Ohio we realized that we forgot to get a photo of Jude with a cactus. So we took a drive to the closest cactus we could find. It was in a random factory parking lot!

IMG_7710We were up bright and early the next day to catch a flight to Ohio…
