Toby: 14 Months Old

At 14 months old Toby is running everywhere.

IMG_1153Like Jude, he had an awesome month with Grandma and Bampa.

IMG_0742He wasn’t smiles all month long as he had a ginormous top molar come through causing lots of drool and tears.

IMG_1142And the tantrums! He throws some pretty amazing ones already and thy just seem so cute compared to the ones Jude throws.

IMG_1341Toby has been really digging ride-on toys,

IMG_1262And dogs. He goes nutty whenever he sees one, shouting ‘DOG!’ over and over.

IMG_1275His vocabulary has been growing by the day. Here’s what he can say: mom, dada, moo, blue (for blueberries), Elmo, Jude, more, shoes, this, cheese, juice, banana, poo, baa, fish, Kate, is hot, and up. He also can nod his head really well for ‘yes’.

IMG_1295He is still our great eater and has even become more accepting of eggs, broccoli and cauliflower.

IMG_1301He is so good at telling us when he wants more of something.

IMG_1222Toby hasn’t been hitting Jude as much this month as previous ones. Still, most fighting occurs over wanting the same toy.

IMG_0544Toby is still breastfeeding three times a day – in the morning, before his nap and before bedtime. He sometimes asks for it more but I will give him cow’s milk instead.

IMG_0773Toby has a great big smile.

IMG_0884It was near impossible to get him to do that same smile at his modeling job this month but all the shots still turned out great.

IMG_0944Toby loves to hide under a blanket with Jude. Someone yells, ‘dinosaur’ and Toby will let out a big shriek and we will all hide under a blanket.

IMG_0561He also still loves to stand on his head,

IMG_1145And make us laugh all the time.

IMG_1143Dancing also remains at the top of his favorite things list.

IMG_1216As does doing whatever Jude is.

IMG_1229Toby continues to have an extremely stubborn personality but we love how he knows exactly what he wants.

IMG_1344Our little Toby has really blossomed this month.

Jude: 31 Months Old

Jude is 31 Months Old!

IMG_1200The highlight of his month was most certainly having Grandma and Bampa here. He continues to ask me everyday when they are coming back or if he can go on an airplane to see them.

IMG_0574At 31 months, Jude loves, loves, loves role-play. He loves role-playing pirates, monsters, dinosaurs, and firefighters,

IMG_1131He also loves pretending to be Dad – off to work he goes!

IMG_0480He jumps at any chance he gets to help out Mom and Dad. If the timing is right, I can manage a potential tantrum by engaging him in something helpful and getting him really, really excited about it.

IMG_1219I introduced him to glue this month. Look at that concentration…

IMG_1209He loves to try and defy us but is still very quick to get in line as soon as we begin our 5,4,3,2,1 countdown and tell him he will go into time-out. Most of his battles around eating and sleeping. He tries to demand the conditions under which he will do either of those things or invents new delay tactics. We always win.

IMG_0994Once in a while  I let him do ‘naughty’ stuff -like dumping baby powder all over the floor. The boys have so much fun together spreading it everywhere and its easily cleaned up with a quick mop.

IMG_1191Jude had a modeling job this month which he absolutely nailed.

IMG_1086Jude’s has sorted out how to correctly use, ‘you,’ ‘me,’ and ‘I’. He sounds so grown-up now when he talks. This month he started asking us if we were ‘having a good day’. He’s also really good at making us laugh by doing something we don’t expect. The other day he was sitting on the potty before bedtime and we weren’t chatting. He was just looking down at his knees when all of the sudden he put his hands over his face, looked up, moved his hands away and said, ‘Peek-a-booooo, Mom’ in a super exaggerated way with a huge smile. We both bust up laughing.

IMG_1282He’s still totally fearless and runs and jumps like he he knows exactly how its going to turn out. The other day he jumped off the couch onto the top of his play tent. He came crashing down on top of it on the floor with a big boom. I was expecting tears but instead he gets right up and proceeds to do it 10 more times. I can foresee many trips to the ER with these boys.

IMG_1283That’s our Jude!

Bampa and Grandma back in Taipei

Grandma and Bampa did it again! They flew thousands of miles to come and visit us once again on our tiny island. They arrived at night and so we let Jude stay up past his bedtime to see them. He was beyond thrilled to see them and the gifts they brought for him.

IMG_0563That first night, Jude insisted Bampa put him to sleep.

IMG_0568In the morning Toby was pretty excited to have new friends to play with. He warmed up to them right away and was totally attached the rest of the time.

IMG_0572Their first day we went for a walk around town.

IMG_0595And to Din Tai Fung for the most delicious lunch ever.

IMG_0606Bampa promised Jude ice cream after.

IMG_0609On Saturday night we left the kids home with our babysitter and took them to A Cai, so they could sample real homestyle Taiwanese food in a very lively atmosphere.

IMG_1382

And on Sunday we packed a few bags, said goodbye to Dad, and got on a train to Hualien. From there we headed to Taroko Gorge, where we spent the night at the Silks Place.

IMG_0664We were all happy to arrive at our hotel room after the long journey.

IMG_0684Later we found some energy to check out the rooftop pools famous for the fabulous views.

IMG_1381

IMG_1380And after a quick play in the basement playroom we headed to happy hour.

IMG_0685

Sharing one room with the boys meant we had to be pretty quiet while they fell asleep. We actually all ended up falling asleep when they did – around 7:30pm! So we were up in the morning and ready to go. First, breakfast.

IMG_0696And then, to the indoor pool for one last swim.

IMG_1383Before we know it it was time to leave. Wee Toby fell asleep in Grandma’s arms in the van back to the train station. Precious!

IMG_0717Back in Taipei we got into our normal, everyday routine again. Going to the wet market,

IMG_0731Playground,

IMG_0736And lots of walks around.

IMG_0631

IMG_0628We spent one morning at Leo’s for a change of scenery.

IMG_0755And lots of time at home chilling out.

IMG_0989We also managed one more adult night out at our favorite Japanese spot.

IMG_0763

Then on Thursday we packed our bags again and took the High Speed Rail down to Kenting to head to the beach.

IMG_0776

IMG_1385

IMG_1390

IMG_0824

IMG_0825We spent 4 days down there and the boys were really pooped at the end of each one.

IMG_0829

IMG_0828It was nice to escape the city for a bit and get to play in the sand and surf.

IMG_0826Their final few days we were also busy. We went to IKEA for hotdogs and a new chair for Toby.

IMG_0859We celebrated an Early Thanksgiving.

IMG_0849Baked cookies with Grandma.

IMG_0874And took Grandma to Toby’s modeling gig.

IMG_0923As always, time went by all too fast. We miss this scene so much. It was so sad waking up the days after they left and the boys realizing that they really weren’t there.

IMG_0841We miss you Grandma and Bampa and can’t wait to see you again.
